Cote Orientale

Sandy beaches stretch for miles from Morani-Plage at Aléria along to Ghisonaccia. If you enjoy the sea and good food this might be the place for you. The area also attracts bird watchers and nature lovers who visit the area for the wide open spaces with the wetland areas being of special interest to ornithologists. This area of the east of Corsica is the place where the best grapes for wine production are grown.

Ghisonaccia is a little seaside town located 60 km from Porto-Vecchio and 80 km from Bastia, south of the Costa Serena. This are is very popular with tourists and has beautiful beaches overlooked by towering mountains and its three rivers make this region's landscapes highly varied. Its villages, are surrounded by forest and the ever present Corsican maquis.

Inland you can enjoy exploring the magnificent forests. These date back to 1584 when the Genoese organised the organised planting of precious tree species, in particular chestnut trees. As the region was well populated then, the orchard became a vast forest of chestnut trees giving the to the area known as Castagniccia today (castagna - chestnut). Castagniccia is a beautiful area with stone tiled roofs many having their own chestnut drying rooms. In September and October this area has a special beauty with the leaves of the trees turning colour.
