Calvi / Ile Rousse / La Balagne

Ancient villages, such as Pigna and Speluncato sit precariously above the coast with the backdrop of dramatic mountains. Calvi is the principal town of the area and very popular in the summer months with tourists. Here there are many apartments, villas and houses for holiday letting. It is dominated by its heavily walled citadel and harbour. Here you can enjoy the sophisticated air and frequent the many shops, restaurants and boutiques. I'le Rousse is a friendly town with a tree sheltered square with its many restaurants flanked by a sandy beach.
Calenzana, a more quet town lies at the foot of the Montegrosso. The area and surrounging villages have a range of holiday rental properties to offer. Callenzana is the starting point for the famous GR20 long distance footpaths running along the centre of the island. Less demanding walks are numerous and the area is a great attraction to hikers of various abilities.
